"… in the first decades of the eighteenth century, and, indeed, in London, a society came into public notice,
which apparently had arisen earlier, but about which no one knew how to say whence it came, what it was, and what it sought.
It spread, notwithstanding, with inconceivable rapidity and traveled over France and Germany, into all states of Christian Europe, and even to America.
Men of all ranks, regents, princes, nobles, the learned, artists, men of business, entered it; Catholics, Lutherans, and Calvinists were initiated
and called one another Brother."
(Bro. Johann Gottlieb Fichte, Letters to Constant - circa 1803)
Where the works of any author of Masonic research may be freely published. Each of its contributors is entitled to, and is responsible for, his own opinions. Believing that a unity of spirit is better than a uniformity of opinion, this Forum does not champion any one school of Masonic thought as over or against another; but offers to all a medium for fellowship and instruction, leaving each to stand or fall on his own merit.
This website was originally created by the direction of the then ruling W. Master of Quinte St. Alban's Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 620 G.R.C., W. Bro. Vincent Lombardo, as a means of informing the many members, who had moved to other provinces and countries, about the activities of their lodge, and also as an open archive of the many essays and lectures presented in the lodge at that time. Soon thereafter, many Masons from other Jurisdictions, and indeed from around the world, manifested their interest in the educational material published, and even offered their own work for publication. As the original intent was for the benefit of our own members, and, because much of the content was of a private nature of the Lodge itself, the private content was removed, and the site transformed into an Open Forum for Masonic Research and instruction for the use of all Masons who are not satisfied with the little Masonic instruction they receive in their Lodges nowadays in the fields of Masonic History, Philosophy, ancient Practices, and Purposes of the Craft, especially in the northern Masonic Jurisdictions of the American continent, due to the general lack of knowledge on the part of their leaders, and the misguided belief that forms and appearances are the substance of Masonry. Since its beginning in the fog of time, Speculative Masonry aimed at the intellectual development of men for the betterment of their community in particular, and of mankind in general. We see throughout recorded history (you will find the records on this site,) great men of all professions joining the rank of this most progressive and enlightened Fraternity, working assiduously toward and for the purpose of attaining the Masonic Ideal. In the past few decades, among the Masonic Jurisdictions mentioned above, these records have been grossly overlooked and now completely forgotten; which is a shame on them and their leaders, and a great loss to their members. We hope these pages will become a pleasant read to you, and a source of that knowledge that may have been your motive for joining the Fraternity in the first place.
You will find here useful material for your researches into the history, philosophy, ancient law, and purposes of Freemasonry, in articles and papers written both by Masons and Profanes, in addition to the English translation of several rare books written long ago in various languages, and nowhere else available on the web or in print.
